The summer season is well underway, and there’s no doubt that your kids are begging to go outside and play every chance that they get. While the summer is meant to be spent having fun outdoors, you also have to keep in mind that there are certain dangers associated with spending too much time outside. Florida is known for its tropical temperatures, and if your children don’t take the proper precautions, the heat could ruin their fun.

When your child is running around outside with their friends, it doesn’t take long for the heat and humidity to take their toll. Keeping your little one hydrated is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that they stay safe during the summer. Make sure they always have water on hand, and if you notice the kids aren’t drinking as much as they should, make them stop every so often to come inside, cool off, and drink water!
In addition to drinking water while they are playing, your kiddo should be drinking water throughout the entire day, regardless of what they are doing. Give your child a fun water bottle that they can refill and take with them wherever they go. If you take your kiddo with you to run errands, make sure they have their water bottle, or keep a spare in the car in case of emergencies.
Practice Pool Safety
With the average high temperatures reaching the 90s during the summer, one of the best ways to keep cool is to go swimming! Most Florida residents are fortunate enough to have a pool in their backyard, and if that’s the case, then pool safety is of the utmost importance. First and foremost, it’s vital that you enroll your child in swim lessons as soon as you are able. Some children are naturally gifted swimmers, but others may struggle. The last thing you want is for your little one to accidentally fall into the pool and not know how to swim, so it’s necessary that they learn at a young age.
Thought it is important, knowing how to swim isn’t the only safety precaution that you should keep in mind this summer. Supervision is also one of the top priorities when it comes to pool safety. Just because there are a number of adults standing around the pool, doesn’t mean that they are all watching the kids. In those situations, most parents will assume that one of the other parents is watching. Make sure that there is always someone monitoring the pool when the kids are playing.
