Teacher Qualification Standards

In compliance with Florida law, all instructional personnel at Ivy League Preparatory Academy meet or exceed the state requirements set forth in Florida Statute Section 1002.421.

All teachers employed by or contracting with the school satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  2. Hold a valid Florida Professional or Temporary Teaching Certificate in the relevant subject area or grade level.
  3. Possess three (3) or more years of documented, successful teaching experience in a public, charter, or private school environment.
  4. Possess specialized skills, expertise, or certification in a specific subject area as evaluated and approved by the school administration.

Background Screening Requirements

All instructional personnel, administrative staff, and employees undergo background checks, including Level 2 criminal history background screenings through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), prior to employment and every five years thereafter pursuant to F.S. 1002.421 and F.S. 1012.32.

IDEA Disability Disclosure & Notice to Parents

Pursuant to Section 1002.421(1)(j), Florida Statutes, parents of students with disabilities must be informed of the differences between the rights of a student attending a public school under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the rights of a student attending a private school.

Public School Rights (IDEA)

Students attending a public school with a documented disability are entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in accordance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Public schools are required to:

  • Develop and implement an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Provide specialized instruction, related services, and accommodations at no cost to parents.
  • Maintain specific procedural safeguards, due process rights, and formal dispute resolution mechanisms.

Private School Enrollment & Accommodations

  • No FAPE/IEP Entitlement: Private schools are not required to provide a FAPE or implement an IEP created by a local school district. Enrolling a student in a private school is considered a voluntary placement by the parent, which waives the procedural protections guaranteed under IDEA within the public school system.
  • Academic & Behavioral Accommodations: Ivy League Preparatory Academy offers reasonable academic accommodations and support services based on our internal resources and capabilities. Student support plans are created collaboratively between administration, teachers, and parents.
  • Child Find & District Services: Parents retain the right to request a formal evaluation for special education services from their local public school district (Child Find) at any time, even while enrolled at a private school. The local school district may offer a Service Plan for equitable services to eligible private school students, subject to district funding and availability.

Florida Choice Scholarships for Students with Unique Abilities

Parents of students with a documented disability or diagnosed special need may be eligible for state-funded educational choice scholarships, such as the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) administered by Step Up For Students or the AAA Scholarship Foundation.
