The summer heat is in full effect. We want to remind families, staff, neighbors and friends to “Look Before You Lock” to ensure that no child gets left behind in a hot vehicle. Many pre schools and daycares around the state have taken the initiative to call parents if children do not show up to their child care facility or home at the expected time. This is a life-saving procedure that only takes a few minutes. If you transport children, consider holding a refresher course on transportation safety and the importance of maintaining a driving log.
Let’s all make an effort to protect children and keep them safe this summer. Here are some important reminders to practice and share:
- Be sure to check the back seat before you leave the vehicle.
- Put your purse, lunch, etc. in the backseat so that you are sure to look there before you lock the vehicle.
- Do not let children play near vehicles; they may accidentally lock themselves in.
- Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see a child left unattended in a car.
Thank you & have a safe summer!
